Walks, Views, Waterlogued

Just a few artsy views, all of them created with the Waterlogue App from my own photos.  From walks around the neighborhood, and from a little day excursion we took a couple weeks ago out to Point Loma Lighthouse.

 

Beautiful

Just because it is so beautiful . . . sharing this painting by French artist Henri Biva (1848-1929).   You can see more about it here.   It's now the wallpaper on my phone.  With the screen's light shining through it, it is even lovelier.  You can click on the image to see it even better.  The details are amazing.  Each leaf and each blade of grass, the leaves on the water . . . 

 

 

Summertime

Looking at the weather today, I notice it's rather sweltering in many places around the Northern Hemisphere!  Summertime seems to have truly arrived.  We have 90F at noon here in East San Diego County, California.  

In honor of summertime, here is a lovely painting by Cuno Amiet, 1934, titled Cat in the Summer Garden.

 

The Answer to Our Anxiety . . .

 The answer to our anxiety is not drugs, alcohol, tranquilizers, or psychiatric treatment.  It will not be cured by Yoga or some new age or eastern meditation practice. The problem is that we have lost God as the center of our lives.  Once we make our love of God the primary focus of our lives and allow His grace to work through us, then no matter what circumstance we encounter in life we will be comforted and embraced in His love.  All anxiety disappears. This is the aim of the Orthodox way of life--to put God first and seek the Holy Spirit.  The anxieties of modern life are only symptoms of our separation from God.

A Visit to Balboa Park

It's always a pleasant experience

to pay a visit to Balboa Park

and see what there is to see . . .

. . . here is a taste of what was on offer a couple of weeks ago.

 It's rather surreal to see a plant you normally encounter as an indoor plant

in a smallish pot now looming before you as an enormous giant,

much taller than you are!

Note the jetliner!  They come in low and fast

on their way into San Diego airport.

We also paid a visit to the San Diego Museum of Art.
